Job Summary

The Accounting Manager functions as a key part of a team responsible for the accounting. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Accounting Manager oversees a team of three Senior Accountants and one Staff Accountant primarily responsible for property accounting.


Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of three Senior Accountants and one Staff Accountant responsible for property accounting and providing accounting support to the related property operations and asset management teams.
  • Oversee the month-end close for a portfolio of properties, including the review and posting of general ledger journal entries, review of month end accruals for accuracy and validity, review of various schedules and analyses, and performing the month-end corporate consolidation.
  • Manage various close processes including, but not limited to, the monthly prepaid tax and prepaid insurance processes; monthly recurring entry process; monthly income accruals including Common Area Maintenance (CAM) recovery/ accruals/ reclasses submitted by regional divisions; monthly utility accruals and fluctuation analysis; and review of the monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare variance analyses on property financial statements and review with property operations group, including the review and posting of adjusting entries as necessary to accurately state financials.
  • Review of management fee calculations to ensure fees are being recorded timely and in accordance with the management fee agreements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • CPA designation, actively pursuing CPA, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of commercial property accounting experience, knowledge of retail properties a plus
  • 1+ years of management experience
  • Strong attention to detail and well organized
  • Advanced MS Excel skills
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities without compromising accuracy or quality
